Ken Stewart, Lake Steward and Education Committee

Ken was born and raised in Kincardine, Ontario and went to Fanshawe College to study agriculture and crop science. He and his wife, Janet celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary in September 2023. They met in a little stopover called Amberley and were married in Pine River. They have two children who now live on the lake as well.

He started coming to the Island 20 years ago on an annual fishing trip with his brother-in-law and friends; and enjoyed Manitoulin’s easy-going, relaxed and laid back atmosphere. They’ve been at their cottage on Jump’s Bay, off Cannard’s Lane for 8 years and lived there full time for the last several years. The cottage was originally owned by the Townsends, they renovated it and made the necessary changes so that it could be used as a year round residence.

Ken is also a member of the Central Manitoulin Fire Department, as well as a volunteer for the Manitoulin North Shore Victim Services and helps out at vaccine clinics. In his down time he enjoys relaxing by gardening and woodworking, and has recently started playing Pickleball. He’s tried fishing, but thinks he lacks the patience necessary for that particular activity.

He really enjoys all his volunteer work, because they moved around a lot during his career and was unable to volunteer very much, so he is making up for that by giving back to this community.
